Flemish Masters - Animato Kwartet (NL)

  • Church of Saint Michael

Have you ever walked into the stately St Michael’s Church? Hanging there is a phenomenal work by Anthony van Dyck: Christ on the Cross. One look at the painting and the music of Joseph Haydn rises up of its own accord. He wrote The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour on the Cross some 150 years after Van Dyck and it feels like the perfect soundtrack to this tableau. This is music that comes fully to life in the hands of the young Dutch Animato Kwartet. Glide away with them in one of the most beautiful works for string quartet…

This concert ties in with the art trail of Flemish Masters in Situ, a project of the Flemish Tourist Office Toerisme Vlaanderen to put the works of the Flemish Masters on the map. During OdeGand we put the musical spotlight on three works of art:

  1. Antoon Van Dyck: Christ on the Cross, Church of Saint Michael - Animato Kwartet
  2.  The Last Supper, Abbey refectory in STA’M - Frank Nuyts & CASCO Phil
  3. Michiel Coxie: Christ on the Cross triptych, Church of Saint James - Nadar Ensemble & Mazen Kerbaj
