First Symphony 'De Gentse'

First Symphony 'De Gentse'

This concert has ended.

A symphonic ode to the city of Ghent and its community, composed by Jef Neve.

Composer and pianist Jef Neve may have been born in Turnhout, but he lost his heart to Ghent! His love for the city runs so deep that he decided to make his first symphony an ode to the city and its people. No small feat for a composer.

"It will be a profound musical exploration of Ghent, where the city’s noble heritage enters into dialogue with technological innovation. In the four movements of the symphony, the auditory landscape of the city unfolds, gracefully navigating between past and future, with a soul rooted in the Middle Ages and wings reaching toward the innovations of tomorrow. Ghent is a city of ancient stones and new dreams!”
- Jef Neve

Just as Mozart had his Prague, and Haydn his Paris and London symphonies, Jef Neve now has his Ghent Symphony. This brand-new work will have its world premiere on the eve of OdeGand at the Wintercircus, and will be performed again the following day.
