Aurel Budisteanu Quartet
Accordionist and singer George Nae came to Belgium from Romania at the beginning of this century. He hails from an illustrious musical family with a long tradition and was taught by several leading names in gypsy music. In Brussels he played to make ends meet, initially in the corridors of the metro, and under the pseudonym Aurel Budisteanu he played with a number of Roma groups.
Since 2007 he has been teaching at the Academy of Muziekpublique in Brussels and has succeeded in carving out a distinct place for himself in the musical life of the city. Together with singer Elena Dinu and three musical friends, he presents a programme of compelling gypsy music.
