Flemish Masters - Nadar Ensemble (BE) & Mazen Kerbaj (LB)

  • St James' Church
Jumbotron

The Nadar Ensemble, Flanders’ most adventurous formation, set to work with the masterpiece Christ on the Cross that Michiel Coxie painted in 1579 for St James’ Church. They take you with them into a mosaic of thrilling music. They are delighted to reprise their recent successful premiere of Bernhard Lang’s The Angels Song, linked to Luc Tuymans’ 21st century wall painting Angel. And they’ll be bringing along motorised instruments for Pietà by Lisa Streich. As the cherry on the cake, Nadar will be inviting the Lebanese trumpeter and artistic all-rounder Mazen Kerbaj, who turns every object into a musical instrument. Join them in their experiment!

This concert ties in with the art trail of Flemish Masters in Situ, a project of the Flemish Tourist Office Toerisme Vlaanderen to put the works of the Flemish Masters on the map. During OdeGand we put the musical spotlight on three works of art:

  1. Antoon Van Dyck: Christ on the Cross, Church of Saint Michael - Animato Kwartet
  2.  The Last Supper, Abbey refectory in STA’M - Frank Nuyts & CASCO Phil
  3. Michiel Coxie: Christ on the Cross triptych, Church of Saint James - Nadar Ensemble & Mazen Kerbaj
